I did it

I am quite impressed with myself right now. I have been doing the couch to 5km running thing, but not real well. I have been doing week 1 every day for the last 2 weeks, but instead of running for 1 minute I had only been running for 30 seconds.

After reading a heap of inspirational posts on the 12WBT forums, I decided to JFDI. There is a cyclone headed this way tonight, so there is a nice breeze rather then the usual stinking humidity, so no better time then right now ( or half an hour ago in my case ), and you know what, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I think I will be pushing myself a bit harder from now on.

Also weighed in on friday at 107.6kg, so that is 2.2kg loss for the last week. Can't wait to work my way back under 100kg.

Brighty and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Shoes

Got some new fancy joggers last week.

About 6 months ago I tried to take up jogging. I bought some shoes, which ended up being an expensive mistake. I get shin splints and thought that spending $$ = no more shin splints. Well to start with I got the wrong size, got blisters and basically gave up.

To start fresh and stop wearing my skate shoes, ( just need to add, I don't skate, just like that style of shoe, not as much as thong's though ) I make the trip to athletes foot. First thing, OMG how expensive are shoes. I have 4 kids and when they get a bit older I think I will have to take out a personal loan to visit the shoe shop. However I was getting the right pair for my feet, was just going to hand over the card and deal with it later. I don't want to have any excuse to not exercise so this had to be done.

I got measured up, first thing I hear "I am going to have to put you in mens shoes" Guess I have whopping huge feet. The guy brings me out about 4 pairs of shoes to try on. I start looking through the boxes, boring white shoes. Look, I have nothing against people who wear white standard runners, I am just not one of those people. Then I come across a pair that look like a peacock has done the deed with a rainbow lorikeet and the is now their offspring. I instantly know that although I would prefer a red or green "plainer" type of shoe, that wasn't an option. These shoes have no white on them at all, even the laces are multi-coloured. So I hand over my card and now the rainbow lorikeet / peacock coloured joggers are all mine.

The only thing that leaves me thinking is they are mostly pink & purple, with some touches of blue and yellow with sparkly laces, and I bought these from the mens section. I have never had a more girly pair of shoes in my life.

The Beginning of the new and improved Brighty

Well it all started a few weeks back. I was sitting at my computer, most likely on facebook, and had been feeling really crappy for a few weeks. No motivation. Headaches. And fat, I had overeaten at Christmas, but it was more then that. I was 115kg, obviously it wasn't just the baked potatoes in one meal that had me where I was at.

I never planned on being this big. When your little you never think that you will grow up and be fat. You have many other dreams, and I bet there is not one that you imagine yourself being fat in. I only had myself to blame, however I could give you a million reasons why, but none on them are good enough.

So, I just got up and walked out the door and kept walking for 30 minutes. My shoes gave me blisters, so the next day I did it in thongs. I just kept going. I also started trying to eat a bit healthier and a much more sensible portion size. I discovered the calorie king website and started be accountable for what I was putting into my mouth.

Last Friday I weighed in at 109.8kg.

Earlier this week I was back at my desk, on facebook again, when I saw a post about 12WBT, I had no idea what that even stood for, a few clicks later and I was signed up. I didn't really think about it, I just did it. Even looking forward to it, so much so I went and bought the book crunch time and have started the workouts, while still keeping up with my walking which now also features jogging.

And you know what.....

I feel strong that I am making this change
I feel powerful that I have already made the changes to my diet and look forward to fine tuning these
I FEEL FANTASTIC

...imagine what it will be like at the other end of the 12 weeks, or even after 12 months.
